Full Moon in Taurus and Sun in Sagittarius

Taurus Full Moon

17 November 2013
3:16 p.m. GT, 9:16 a.m. CT

There is again, a stellium in Scorpio with this Full Moon composed of the Sun, Saturn and Mercury.  This suggests a restriction (Saturn) of self (Sun) expression/communication (Mercury.)

The Moon in Taurus is ruled by Venus and is concerned with security and building reserves (emotional, physical or monetary.)

May I suggest evaluating where in your life you feel that you are not getting your needs met, and focusing on ways you can feel fulfilled?

Sagittarius Sun

The Sun moves into Sagittarius on 21 November at 9:48 pm CT, 3:48 p.m. GT.  Get ready for adventure, opportunities to learn and good times with friends and family!  Fun-loving and adventurous Sagittarius brings the holiday season.

Scorpio Solar Eclipse/New Moon

3 November 2013
12:50 p.m. GMT/6:50 a.m. CST

Intense energy is promised with this Solar Eclipse/New Moon.  The Moon, Sun, Saturn, Mercury and the North Node are all together (in a tight bunch) in SCORPIO.

With Saturn in this stellium (three or more planets) in Scorpio, I believe there will be some conflicts about communications and further attempts at restricting reproductive choices.

Scorpio’s power is hidden beneath the surface and quite illusive.  However, as a Water sign, Scorpio can bring out passionate emotions.  I’m betting on an emotion-packed weekend for many since this New Moon occurs on a Sunday and the energy will have been building for a while.  Hopefully this will result in positive and uplifting emotions for you.

Aries Full Moon

 Friday October 18, 2013
6:38 pm CDT; 11:38 pm GMT

The Moon is in the me-me-me sign of Aries at this Full Moon with a Lunar eclipse.

Libran energy is concerned with finding balance in all things, while the Aries energy is driven to initiate and lead.  Add a challenge from Cancer, which is security-driven and you are heading down a path of…change, which is exciting, and yet takes into consideration the security needed to feel that you are on the right path.

Have faith that your journey is the right one for you.

Whenever you are in doubt, make the choices that are in line with your goals.  Let your internal compass (your body) be your guide.  Verbalize your choices – say each one out loud and pay attention to how your body reacts to the words.

Libra New Moon

Saturday October 5, 2013 at 12:35 am GMT
Friday October 4, 2013 at 7:35 pm CDT

With the Moon and Sun both in Libra, we see an accentuation on all things related to Libra:  relationships, fairness and equity, balance, indecisiveness.

Are you feeling the urge to make changes in your life?  Or have there been sudden unexpected choices that left you feeling confused?

The New Moon in Libra is amplifying the energy of sudden transformation.  Even though changes may seem terrifying at times, it is good to take a step back, let it sink in and think about what the possible outcomes could be.

Every choice you make today creates your tomorrow.
Changes may seem threatening to your stability, altering your life in ways that you are not comfortable with.  Go with the flow until you feel it sink in and become part of you.  In time you will look back and understand why.

The Pluto-Uranus square is still in effect and will last into 2015.  Revolutionary changes that began back in 1965-1966 are being re-visited today.  Let us hope for a better world for our children and society at large.  Libran energy is concerned with fairness and balance.

Virgo New Moon, 9/5/13

Virgo New Moon on September 5th at 6:38 am CDT / 11:38 am GMT

If I am only happy for myself, many fewer chances for happiness.
If I am happy when good things happen to other people, billions
more chances to be happy!”

~Dalai Lama~

Virgo’s theme is service.  With Moon, Sun and Ascendent in Earthy Virgo, you may feel the pull to be of help to others, perhaps behind the scenes.  You could donate to a charity, volunteer to help the homeless, serve as a mentor to children who need guidance or work puzzles with the elderly.

How can you help make the world a better place?  Just be the best you that you can be.  Smile at everyone you meet.  You never know how much your smile means to those who see it on your face and resonate with your upbeat appearance.  Do a favor for a stranger, even if it's as simple as holding a door open for them.  The good feeling multiplies, so keep it going.  Find innovative ways to do good things for others without expecting anything in return.

After all of this, nurture yourself so you still have something left to give.  Meditate, exercise, prepare a healthy meal with your favorite dish, have a belly laugh with a friend while you eat that meal.  You could just go out for a great meal at your favorite place and enjoy a belly laugh (with a friend of course, you don't want to look weird sitting at a table by yourself laughing!)

This is the week that children in the US return to school.  Summer vacation is over.  The weather is still warm, but students must now turn their attention to learning and remembering what they studied the previous school year.  It's exciting, brand new notebooks, no papers have been written or graded, the teachers are new, classmates may spark renewed or new friendships.  Enjoy if this is your first year of college. It's just the start to an adventure of adult learning that can last your entire lifetime!

Astrology 101 continued from last posting...

Modalities

There are three modalities or qualities, and with 12 signs, there are four signs in each modality.  The modalities are Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable.

Cardinal signs are interested in action.  Fixed signs are interested in beliefs and ideals.  Mutable signs are interested in connections/relationships and people.

Cardinal

The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.  Cardinal signs are initiators of action.  They are also assertive; the ones who make things happen.  The keyword for Cardinal is “creativity.”  In essence, Cardinal signs start a process in motion in order to create what they want.

The Cardinal signs also mark the beginning of the Seasons:  Aries marks the beginning of the astrological calendar and the onset of Spring; Cancer is the start of the warmer weather of Summer; Libra brings the Fall with the beautiful colors in the trees, and Capricorn brings the cold of Winter.

Cardinal signs display their assertion in differing ways.  Aries is a straightforward outpouring of energy.  Cancer is a subtle assertion of emotion.  Libra is an assertion on the mental level, with fairness and lack of prejudice.  Capricorn’s assertion is directed at social standing, with a desire to be the best.

Fixed

The Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.  These signs seek to maintain and preserve the status quo.  The keyword for Fixed signs is “Will.” They are determined to sustain what is so, and are not easily changed, hence the fixed quality.

Fixed signs will not easily bend to the will of others, unless it is something they want to do.  Fixed signs are the most elusive as their motivations are most often not obvious.  These are the power signs.  In Taurus, the power is suppressed, but ever ready.  In Leo, the power is always on the surface and easily expressed.  Scorpio’s power is below the surface and illusive. Aquarius expresses grounded power.

Mutable

The Mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.  These signs are adaptable and flexible to change.  They see what already exists and modify/redesign it.  The keyword for Mutable signs is “Flexibility.”

Mutable signs must exercise caution against being too scattered.  They are often pursuing one deadline after another, always going on to the next thing, and the next thing.  They can easily find themselves spread too thin, or involved in more than they can easily handle.

You might imagine this as a Gemini reading several books at a time; a Virgo over-committed to numerous volunteer projects; Sagittarians continually pursuing knowledge and Pisces taking on everyone’s feelings.

Elements

The signs are divided into four additional groups (elements):  Fire, Earth, Air and Water.  There are three planets in each element.

Fire and Air signs are positive and motivational - masculine; Water and Earth signs are passive and receptive - feminine.

Fire

The Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.  The keyword for the Fire signs is “Inspiration.”

Aries is the Fire of personality (emotions and impulse.)  Leo is the Fire of the heart or affections.  Sagittarius is the Fire of wisdom.

Air

The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.  The keyword of the Air signs is “Aspiration.”  Air signs are concerned with intellect and intuition.

Gemini represents the intellect; the gathering and dispersing of knowledge.  Libra is judgment, often acquired through experience and hard times.  Aquarius represents intuition.

Water

The keyword for the Water signs is emotion. The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.  Each of them is emotionally charged.

Cancer is a nurturing sign, associated with mother and family.  Scorpio represents passionate emotions, often associated with intimacy.  Pisces is sympathetic with tender emotions.

Earth

The Earth signs are concerned with the physical or material.  The keyword for Earth signs is “Practicality.”

Taurus is patient and a builder of security.  Virgo has patience for details, and is very analytical.  Capricorn is concerned with responsibility, and has patience for the rewards of achievement.

On the Horizon

Gemini New Moon – 8 June 2013 @ 3:58 p.m. GMT, 10:58 a.m. CDT

This New Moon is packed with the energy of Gemini – and from the previous discussion, you will note that Gemini is a Mutable Air sign.  Mars, Sun, Moon and Jupiter will all be in Gemini.

You may have extra energy to brainstorm on a new project, or at least iron out some details.

How about discussing a plan to remodel your home with a contractor?  Or would you rather gather with friends for a philosophical debate?

The New Moon is the perfect time to set intentions for the month ahead.

Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice takes place on 21 June 2013.  This marks the advent of the Sun into the sign of Cancer, a Cardinal Water sign.  After this, the longest day of the year, the period of daylight will shorten each day until the Winter Solstice in December.

Capricorn Full Moon – 23 June 2013,11:33 a.m. GMT, 6:33 a.m. CDT

Capricorn is ambitious, and with the Sun in the emotional sign of Cancer, might I suggest an extended family reunion?  Late June is a great time to gather your relatives and catch up with each other.

You might also consider an all day picnic by the water, or perhaps a camping trip to somewhere new.

Be aware of your feelings, as well as the feelings of others, as there is a lot of emotional energy during this Full Moon with five planets in Water signs.

Astrology Basics

Your natal horoscope is a snapshot of the arrangement of the planets at the moment of your birth.  The placement of the planets in their signs and houses captures the essence of you, the possibilities and challenges that await you throughout your life.

Your Sun sign represents the energy you bring to your personality.  The sign of your natal Moon indicates your driving need in life.  Add to this the sign that was rising at the time of your birth, known as your Rising Sign or Ascendant, and a picture of you, and how you are perceived by others, starts to come into focus.

It is vitally important to know your birth date, place of birth and the exact time of birth in order to capture an accurate picture of your birth (natal) horoscope.  If the exact time of birth is unknown, the horoscope will not be as accurate or as revealing of your potential.

A complete horoscope will reveal to an astrologer the placement of the planets in their signs and houses, and thus, their relationship in aspect to each other.

There are twelve signs of the horoscope, and each sign is associated with a planet.  In the table below the houses (1-12) indicate the placement of signs and planets in the natural zodiac, beginning with Aries (ushering in the Spring) in the first house, and ending with Pisces (the end of Winter) in the 12th house.

Sign                        Planet                        House                        Time of year (approximate)
Aries                        Mars                        1st                         March 21st to April 21st
Taurus                     Venus                       2nd                        April 22nd to May 22nd
Gemini                    Mercury                   3rd                        May 22nd to June 22nd
Cancer                    Moon                        4th                        June 22nd to July 22nd
Leo                          Sun                           5th                         July 22nd to August 22nd
Virgo                       Mercury                   6th                        August 22nd to September 22nd
Libra                       Venus                        7th                        September 22nd to October 22nd
Scorpio                   Pluto                          8th                        October 22nd to November 22nd
Sagittarius             Jupiter                        9th                        November 22nd to December 22nd
Capricorn              Saturn                         10th                      December 22nd to January 22nd
Aquarius                Uranus                        11th                      January 22nd to February 22nd
Pisces                     Neptune                     12th                      February 22nd to March 21st

Your natal horoscope is comprised of 10 planets (the Sun and Moon are considered planets for the purpose of Astrology) and their placement In the 12 houses.  You most likely will not have planets placed in each of the 12 houses, but the sign ruling each house will provide information regarding the respective area of life.

Next time we will focus on the houses, modalities and elements of each sign.

The Dance of Pluto & Uranus

A very strong aspect that we are all experiencing is the current relationship between Uranus and Pluto.  The aspect is called a square, which means the planets are 90 degrees apart.  Uranus and Pluto are outer planets, and as such they are very slow moving.  You may or may not notice the effects of this transit immediately, but it will become apparent in retrospect.

The energy of Uranus is like a strike of lightning.  It is sudden and unexpected.  Uranus can be experienced as a streak of rebellion, or a need to be original, independent or nonconformist.  Uranus concerns itself with technology, humanitarian issues and the occult (astrology).  Uranus takes approximately 84 years to make a complete circle around the 360-degree horoscope.

Pluto was demoted from planetary status by astronomers in 2006 and it is now considered to be a dwarf planet.  Astrologers continue to recognize Pluto as a planet and its effects in both the natal horoscope and by transit.  Pluto takes anywhere from 12 to 35 years to complete its journey through one sign, therefore its effects are termed generational.  That is, since it can take up to 35 years to transit through one sign, all of those born in that time period share the same sign placement.  For example, Pluto’s transit through Sagittarius lasted from November of 1995 through November of 2008.

Pluto transits are very powerful.  Pluto brings the energy of transformation.  Think of the Phoenix rising from the ashes, this is Pluto - the never-ending cycle of birth and death.    Pluto also rules such things as crime, waste, conception, the underworld, and atomic power.

Pluto started its journey through Capricorn (structure, restriction, big business) in November of 2008, and Uranus entered Aries (independence, assertion/aggression, leadership) in May of 2010.  Can you anticipate what changes may be brought about in society with these planets in relationship to each other?

Capricorn and Aries are Cardinal signs, and those who have planets in these signs in their natal horoscope, along with Libra and Cancer, are likely to feel this Pluto-Uranus square the most.  Consult an astrologer to find out how to prepare yourself to make the best of this long-lasting, change-inducing transit.

A look back in time is very telling.  Uranus and Pluto were last in a 90 degree aspect (square) to each other in April of 1932 to January of 1934.

Prohibition of alcohol In the USA was abolished in 1933; the same year the US Congress passed the first minimum wage law (33 cents an hour.)  In April of 1933, Nazi German began persecution of Jews, boycotting Jewish businesses.  In November of 1933, Spain gave women the right to vote.

From January of 1901 to November of 1902, Pluto and Uranus were in opposition (180 degrees apart.)  In 1902, Marie and Pierre Curie isolated the radioactive element, radium.  The Australian parliament agreed to female suffrage in July of 1902.

Uranus and Pluto were conjunct (0 degrees apart) from October of 1965 until June of 1966.  During this time there were protests against the Vietnam conflict, a revival of the movement for women’s liberation, and civil rights protests in the USA.

The current Pluto-Uranus square was first exact on June 24, 2012 and there will be five more exact squares, the last of which will be on March 17, 2015.

Around the world there have been numerous uprisings and rebellions, starting with the Arab Spring, which began in 2010 and is ongoing today.  July of 2011 saw the start of the Occupy Wall Street movement in the USA, which is again, an ongoing movement.  Students protested in London in 2012 against tuition and unemployment of the youth.  Anti-austerity protesters also took to the streets of London in the Fall of 2012.

Hang on tight, we’re in for a wild ride over the next few years!
